GATS-2 (Global Adult Tobacco Survey) 2016-17 fact sheet of Haryana was released by Hon’ble Shri Anil Vij, Health Minster of Haryana on 26 July at Haryana Civil Secretariat, Chandigarh with the support of GSA. During the event, representatives from various departments and the District Nodal Officers were present. On the occasion, the Health Minister said that the State of Haryana has a population of two and a half crore and about 42 lakh citizens use tobacco, which are alarming numbers. Smoking Hookah is a common practice. Although it is not illegal to smoke hookah but it is more harmful compared to cigarettes or bidis because it contains charcoal. A campaign will be launched to make villages Smoke Free and eventually the Smoke Free villages will be awarded by the Health Department.
