Generation Saviour Association was founded by Ms. Amteshwer Kaur in the year 1996, in times when resources and initiatives were minimum in the field of Tobacco Control. The founder is a practising lawyer in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, with her first case being Public Interest Litigation to ban smoking in public places, as a result of which notice to Central and State Governments were issued. With the passing years the army against smoking and tobacco grew stronger with addition of various patrons from fields like education, administration and judiciary. The founder has been honoured by District Level Award from Roopnagar District and District Mohali for outstanding contribution to the society in field of tobacco control.
Generation Saviour Association in its successful existence of 17 years has been conducting various activities in Punjab. The Association as the name suggests intensively works towards saving the generation from the ill effects of smoking and other forms of tobacco. It works at grass root levels by organising awareness campaigns, training and interactive sessions in the villages across Punjab. The association also believes in saving the future generation in preventing it from falling prey to the evils of tobacco.
The GSA has done projects with World Health Organisation namely Commemoration of World No Tobacco Day 2007, Intervention for Creation of Tobacco Free Villages in Districts of Punjab and two more projects on public awareness and sensitisation. The association is also partnered with International Union Against Tuberculosis & Lung Disease (The Union) to free Punjab from Tobacco.
Since 17 years the Association is celebrating the World No Tobacco Day and releasing its annual magazine.
