Generation Saviour Association is an organization driven by morals and run by intellect. It is the brainchild of Ms. Amteshwer Kaur who was a practicing advocate in Punjab and Haryana High Court. Ms Kaur way back in 1996, dreamt of an India free from tobacco use and filed her first case, a Public Interest Litigation to ban smoking in public places. As a gratitude to her contribution in field of tobacco control, Ms Amteshwar was honoured with District Level Awards from the Districts of Roopnagar and SAS Nagar.
All through the early years of inception of Generation Saviour Association, when resources were scant and minimum, Ms Amteshwar's passion and conviction drove GSA. She was a staunch believer that we all can be messengers of change; our little efforts can cause great impact. With her efforts, various patrons from Executive, Administration and Judiciary came together and departments agreed to work in coordination for tobacco control.
She passed away in 2016, but left behind her vision, with which Generation Saviour Association, continues to grow.
Since two decades, GSA has emerged as a pioneer organization working in tobacco control in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. The Association, as the name suggests, intensively works towards saving the future generations from the emerging public health hazards. Generation Saviour Association primarily works for Tobacco Control, Trans fat illimitation, Hypertension Management, prevention of Cardio vascular diseases, controlling Child Obesity, fostering Healthy Lifestyle, educating on lifestyle borne diseases, advancing healthcare and other emerging health care trends and threats.
Besides thrusting upon policy changes, GSA diligently works on Youth Intervention Programmes and also has its presence at grass root levels by organising Awareness Campaigns, Trainings and Interactive Sessions in the villages across Punjab, Haryana and UT Chandigarh.
GSA has worked in close association with World Health Organization, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, The Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases, Global Health Advocacy Incubator and Department of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.
