Tobacco use is a serious public health challenge in several regions of the world. It has assumed the dimension of an epidemic resulting in enormous disability, disease and death. It is estimated that five million preventable deaths occur every year globally, attributable to tobacco use. At this rate, the number of such deaths is expected to double by 2020. In addition to damage to personal health, tobacco use results in severe societal costs like reduced productivity and health care burden, environmental damage and poverty of the families. The degree of destruction brought to bear upon the individual and society surpasses the returns generated by tobacco production and consumption in terms of revenue and employment. The GSA has done projects with WHO namely Commemoration of World No Tobacco Day 2007, Intervention for Creation of Tobacco Free Villages in Districts of Punjab and two more projects on public awareness and sensitisation. The association was also partnered with International Union Against Tuberculosis & Lung Disease (The Union) for smoke free implementations in Mohali District making it the first district in the state declared smoke free by the state Health Minister in 2011. After that GSA & International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease continue this campaign for entire State. The vision of GSA is to free Punjab from Tobacco till 2020. Every year World Anti Tobacco Day was celebrated by Generation Saviour Association against consumption of tobacco and smoking.
GSA wants the next generation to have a healthier and happier relationship with food. To make this change, GSA is working to give them the tools they need to live a healthy life and make better decisions about what they put on their plates when they grow up. A number of studies poke that fast food to health problems, including an increased risk of obesity, poor nutrition, diabetes, heart disease and stroke. It’s wise to limit consumption of fast food to reduce the health risks. To avoid junk food and take nutritious food from last several years under “Healthy youth for Healthy Nation Campaign” GSA organising different activities like Sports Day celebration, Banner & Collage making, Painting and Drawing Competition among the schools of Punjab. In addition of Health awareness GSA also focus on Road Safety, Environment Protection, Women Empowerment, Child Rights etc through the Candle March, Rally and orientation of workshops in Urban and Rural Area for the grass-root level workers for the better understanding on these issues.
