Healthy School Campaign

The organization wrote letters to heads of schools in Punjab urging them to ensure that the food served in the canteen of your school is healthy and wholesome and to ensure that children carry only healthy food in Tiffin and parents abstain from packing junk food for children.It is a common fact that today most of the children have an unhealthy food pattern containing too much-saturated fats, sugars, and a lack of dietary fiber. All this has resulted in obesity among children and they become prone to life-threatening medical conditions like high blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases. To prevent all this is it essential that children eat a healthy balanced diet that is away from Trans fats. Along with parents, it is also the responsibility of the schools that the food served in school canteens is trans- fat-free. In the past the Central Board of School Education had issued guidelines as per which CBSE-affiliated schools are to ensure that Foods High in Fat, Salt and
Sugar (HFSS)—such as chips, fried foods, carbonated beverages, ready-to-eat noodles, pizzas, burgers, potato fries and confectionery items, chocolates, candies, samosas, bread pakora—are not available in school canteens and around 200 meters of school
