Celebration of World No Tobacco Day-2016

World No Tobacco Day was first introduced by the World Health Organization to be celebrated as a most recognized event all over the world in order to make people easily get aware of all the problems and health complications occurred by the tobacco chewing or smoking and to prevent all the health hazards to make the whole world free of tobacco and healthy world of people. It is celebrated intending to aware and encourage people to reduce or completely stop the tobacco consumption in any form all across the globe. The day celebration aims to draw public attention globally to spread the message of harmful effects of tobacco use as well as its complications to others. Variety of global organizations involved in this campaign such as state governments, public health organizations and etc organizes various public awareness programmes locally. For effectively celebrating the World no Tobacco Day all over the world, WHO selects a special theme every year as central component in order to distribute a global message to the people for more awareness. On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day-2016 WHO selects the theme of ‘Get Ready for Plain Packaging’. To spread this message in the society Generation Saviour Association celebrated World No Tobacco Day 2016 at Law Bhawan, Chandigarh. Dr. Anmol Rattan Sidhu, Senior Advocate, Punjab and Haryana High Court graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Ms. Monica Lamba, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Secretary District Legal Services Authority, S.A.S.Nagar, Sr. Lakhmir Singh, SDM, Mohali were the Guest of Honour. Also present on the occasion were Dr. Sonu Goel, Assistant Professor, School of Public Health, PGIMER and Dr. Rakesh Gupta, State Programme Officer, Tobacco Control Cell Punjab. On the occasion the 20th Annual Souvenir of the association was released. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the various competitions held by the GSA during the year.
